Boys Hope Girls Hope Chicago Website

The Challenge

The Chicago chapter of Boys Hope Girls Hope asked Havas to revise the structure of their website in order to primarily increase donations with a secondary request to capture email addresses for a mailing list and make better use of their rich media. I created interactive wireframes in Axure to demonstrate the changes I made to the overall site structure that can be viewed here.

Some of the major changes I made to the site were:

  • simplifying the top menu
  • emphasizing the donation aspect of the site
  • adding personal stories with rich media content

The Menu

One of the first things I tackled on this site was the top navigation. The original site had 6 menu options, some with dropdowns and some without. I revised the menu to have 3 top-level navigation items, and placed stronger emphasis on the “Donate” menu option to draw the eye there. Each top-level menu item features a drop down with options to quickly bring the user deeper into the site to find additional information.

I also added an email capture banner above the main navigation to fulfill the secondary request of capturing more email addresses.

The Rich Content

Boys Hope Girls Hope has a great library of videos of their recipients. These videos are fantastic for giving potential donors a personal connection to the students, so we wanted to incorporate them more prominently on the website.

I opted to introduce the videos right on the homepage, so once users understand the purpose of the organization they can directly see the students the organization is helping.

Each of the blocks opens to a lightbox on click, which features a video about the student.

I made many more adjustments to this site, including condensing pages and reorganizing the site structure to make more sense from a potential donor or volunteer’s perspective. This illustrated some of the primary changes to the site, but all the adjustments I made are in the interactive wireframes here.
